For those of you who missed this on Monday, Thierry Henry scored the game winning goal against Leeds in his return to Arsenal while on loan from my New York Red Bulls. I was watching a live feed of this game in the office that afternoon, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Henry make a run an seek through the Leeds defense, and with that magic first touch he put himself in position to tuck the ball in at the far post. Incredible moment, I’ll never forget it, and it made it really hard to get back to work.
But check out this link to the highlight, it’s the best version I could find that shows the entire build up and goal celebration, when Henry just totally loses himself in the moment as he runs around the field like a little kid.
From Deadspin: Call it a fairytale, call it destiny, don’t call it offside but Thierry Henry scoring for Arsenal (where he scored a club-record 226 goals between 1999 and 2007) is a story from the pages of British pulp fiction.
