Last night at rugby practice, our player/coach Gavin announced he would be heading back to his home country of South Africa in a month to pursue a new job opportunity. during one of our drills I said to him, “Hey Gavin, you know with all the stress of moving, why don’t you give me your jersey, that way you won’t have to worry about packing it and lugging it all the way back to South Africa…” I said it to him in jest, and we had a laugh about it and continued on with our training. At the end of practice, he walked up to me a tossed the jersey he had been wearing to me (Mean Joe Greene style) and said, “here you go, it’s yours.” I tried to give it back to him, seeing as it was a really nice jersey and I’m sure it had some special meaning to him, but he wouldn’t accept it back. It was an incredible gesture, and I’ll wear it with great pride. Thanks Gavin, and best of luck on your move back home.
