It was a hoppy amber ale, that went well with the spicy fare. It was reasonably priced, around $4, for the 22oz bomber.

I made a very spicy Tortilla...

More soup coming out of my kitchen

I made a very spicy Tortilla Soup for dinner this evening, using a recipe that I tuned to my own personal preference. I started by fire roasting two Poblano Peppers, which I then peeled and chopped. I added that to a hot pan with a little Olive Oil, one chopped Spanish Onion, 4 cloves of minced garlic, one chopped Jalapeño, and two diced tomatos. I let those “fry” in the pan for approx 5-8 minutes, adding my own fresh ground chili powder, some ground cumin, and salt & pepper. I then added close to 4 cups of chicken stock to the pan and allowed that to simmer and thicken for about 30-40 minutes. Then it was into the food proccesssor for a quick spin. It was served with sliced Avacado, some Montery Jack cheese, some Parsely, and a few slices of Jalapeño.

It came out great and had a lot of heat, maybe a bit too much for casual soup enjoyment. The smokiness of the Pablano Pepper really stood out, as well as the freshly ground chili powder, but you also got some sweetness form the onion and tomato which provided a nice balance. I;m thinking it might be perfect to pour over a burrito and serve it like an Enchilada.

Had a big game on Wednesday night, we needed to win in order to...

Had a big game on Wednesday night, we needed to win in order to move up two spots in the standing and gain a more favorable match-up for the Playoffs. It didn’t look good during pre-game warm ups, as only 4 players on our team (including myself) had shown up to play. So we had no choice but to play the other team 4 on 5 for the entire game. We jumped out to an early lead thanks to some clutch defensive rebounding and a strong transition game, lead by yours truly, that the defense had no time to react to. The name of the game was good decision making, we stayed strong in our 2-2 zone of defense and didn’t allow the other team to be a factor on the boards, we took away any chance of second chance points and forced them to hit 15-20 foot jump shots. We controlled the boards on the defensive side, and that gave us opportunities to strike in transition. We also used there numbers against them when on offense. Our opponents felt like they could contain us with help defense, but our guys came ready to shoot, so all it took was me to drive to either side, draw three defenders, and then dish the ball behind me to an open shooter. We won the game by 14 points, scoring a total of 89 points.

My Stat Line: 36 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals

Bowling footage from Sunday night, I definitely shouldn’t...

Bowling footage from Sunday night, I definitely shouldn’t have acted like such hot stuff until I picked up the spare.
Made a Broccoli Rabe, Escarole, and White Bean Soup for dinner last night. It was so easy, and came out better than expected. I’ve come to appreciate making soups that involve so few ingredients, the less complex they are, the better. Started by crushing and chopping 4-5 cloves of garlic, tossed them into the pot with some olive oil and re pepper flake. Then added one bunch of Broccoli Rabe and a head of Escarole that was coarsely chopped into the pan to soak up the garlic and olive oil. After sauteing for 5 minutes I added a can of white beans and 4 cups of chicken stock. I let that simmer for about 30 minutes, and then served with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese.

“Larry Bird just throws the ball in the air and God moves the...

“Larry Bird just throws the ball in the air and God moves the basket underneath it.”

I made Sweet Potato Soup on Monday, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it came out. I wasn’t expecting much out of this soup, thinking it would just end up tasting like thinner mashed sweet potatoes, but it was fantastic. It was a fairly limited number of ingredients; 1 onion, 3 sweet potatoes, garlic, 3-4 cups of chicken stock, salt, pepper, and garnished with fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese. It was rich, creamy, savory, and a touch of sweetness from the potatoes. It was a great soup to curl up on the couch with and watch a movie while it snowed outside.

Highlights from my game on Sunday, took on the Green team for...

Highlights from my game on Sunday, took on the Green team for the 2nd time. They had three separate grills going, cooking everything from steak, chorizo sausage, short ribs, massive cuts of beef ribs, and some other fun South American BBQ staples like cow intestine and cows throat. Their drink of choice was a South American favorite, red wine mixed with coca-cola, which tasted just like Sangria. My favorite item by far was the cows throat, it cooked on the grill for about 45 minutes, and developed a dark red char on the outside, but when they took it off the grill and cut it up, the inside remained tender and juicy. The food was amazing and Peter was the ultimate host, and I appreciated everyone translating their Argentine Spanish so I could keep up with the conversation.
